01. Farewell to the City-告別城市
Big city life is not natural---this kind of living distances people from nature; their movements are closely controlled and constantly monitored. The result is alienation and loss of freedom, but most people are willing to make the sacrifice for a convenient life. I’m not. That’s why I’m gone…
Sick and tired of living my life getting told to stop and when to go by the traffic lights / Glass, concrete and steel, block after block / Got a little green man tells me when it’s OK to walk Mother nature where’d you go? / Cause I can’t see your face in the traffic flow / You know this ain’t no way to live / No this ain’t no way to live / And if something’s got to give I guess I’d better be moving on / So I’m gone / I’m gone / I’m already gone / There’s a million stores selling things I don’t want, and I’d buy myself a TV but I know there’s nothing on / There ain’t no such thing as the naked city / She’s an ugly girl in an expensive dress, trying hard to look pretty SUVs and neon lights / We’re so willing to trade for convenience at the expense of our rights But I will not be controlled by you / You can’t tell me what to do / ‘Cause I was born free and you can’t shackle me / ‘Cause I’m gone / I’m gone / I’m already gone / Politicians born to lie like whores to fake / And every cop who walks a beat is on the take / Got an eye in the sky with an ear to the ground / Spinning propaganda and spreading that shit around / But I will not be controlled by you / You can’t tell me what to do / ‘Cause I was born free / Keep your fucking hands off of me / Cause I’m gone / I’m gone / I’m already gone / I’m just another ghost who walks your streets / Smiling up at your cameras and shuffling my feet
02. Sunny Afternoon-午後陽光
A song about the first day of sitting and drinking beer outside after a long cold Canadian winter. Springtime is wonderful.
Where you going on this sunny afternoon? / You can walk your dog, and you can take me home, and we can make out in your room / Winter sure was long, but now it’s gone / The dog shit’s thawing on the lawn / The smells of springtime ain’t the sweetest, but they’re welcome anyway / The sidewalk’s rough, six months of sand under my feet / I’ll hold your hand I’ll hear you laugh / I’ll see you smile, and I’ll feel like singing / Springtime’s here / Let’s sit outside and drink some beer / Springtime’s here / Let’s sit outside and drink some beer / Springtime’s here Let’s sit in the sun and drink some beer / Yeah, I should be working on this sunny afternoon But I played a trick / I phoned in sick and they won’t be seeing my ass too soon / Let’s find a place where we can go sit on an open patio / Somewhere on Elgin Street, or we can head down to the Market / With sparrows twittering in the air and pretty girls walking everywhere Buskers out on the corner / Listen you can hear them singing / Springtime’s here Let’s sit outside and drink some beer / Springtime’s here / Let’s sit outside and drink some beer Springtime’s here / Let’s sit in the sun and drink some beer
03. Act of Will-意志
A song about kicking bad habits.
You’ve been under my skin, tryin’ to take control over me from me / Gotta make you wanna give up and disappear / It’s gonna take an act of will / It’s the beginning of a dry year / It’s the beginning of a dry year / Drinks, you know I love you / Don’t be angry when I snub you / It hurts me more than it hurts you / To say no to you / To say no to you / I moved away / I went out to the country / But I couldn’t lose you on the way / I’m gonna make you wish you never followed me here / It’s gonna take an act of will / It’s the beginning of a dry year / It’s the beginning of a dry year / Smokes, you know I’ll miss you / Don’t be mad when I dismiss you / It hurts me more than it hurts you / To say no to you / To say no to you / I can see the future / I can see my way clear / I can find a way to be free / And though the cost seems dear / It’s gonna take an act of will / It’s the beginning of a dry year / It’s the beginning of a dry year / Mary Jane, I adore you Don’t be mad when I ignore you / It hurts me more than it hurts you / To say no to you / To say no to you / To say no to you / To say no to you / To say no
04. The Losing End-最終
A song about being dumped. Not much meaning any more…just a song we like to jam.
I sit alone here in the afternoon, I think of you / And feeling bad, it makes me sad to see that we might be through / The problem is, and its really quite ironic, I do think / As we get closer we get further away / You were a dream come true, a fairytale, I fell for you / I thought that everything would work out right / But then the change came on so strong / Everything went wrong / November found me on the losing end again / One day back in August, I put a ring upon your finger / And in return, you went and you put me through the wringer / In spite of that I still wanted you back ‘cause I couldn’t stand losing you / I didn’t want to be your memory
05. Home on the Range-等待邊緣
When I wrote this song in 2002, four Canadian soldiers from the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry had just been killed in Afghanistan in a “friendly-fire” incident. A U.S. warplane mistakenly dropped a bomb on them. As of time of writing, eighty-six Canadian soldiers hav
e died over there. I support our troops 100%, but I think that’s enough.
這首歌是Mister Green 是2002年，紀念在阿富汗戰爭中死於意外的四位加拿大士兵所寫，如今已經有86位加拿大士兵死亡。
The boys are on the range tonight / So far from home on the range tonight / PPCLI on the range tonight / Their tracers streak the desert bright / Yet some of these men won’t live to see the morning light / I have no live rounds or empty casings in my possession, sir / Never got to say the words / Death came down from the black sky night / Winging fast and high and out of sight / Came raining down to tear and batter / To mangle and twist, to rend and shatter / That’s what happens when steel meets flesh / And what is it but dying, that soldiers do the best? / I have no live rounds or empty casings in my possession, sir / Never got to say the words
